Still preggo.
Since Baby Buddha is holding out, the big highlight in this update: the chicken coop tour. The Man, my mom and I bravely handed our afternoon over to a bunch of hippies who somehow had commandeered one of the ubiquitous tour trolleys from downtown, in order to cart folks around to see coops of all shapes, sizes and styles.
We saw super DIY, down and dirty shacks…you know, literally pretty down and pretty dirty. We saw super swank set-ups, where I felt slightly threatened by the obvious superior quality of life some chickens enjoy over not only other chickens, but lots of people. We stopped at one place that had a dollhouse like chicken barn, full-size horses and tiny ponies…and chicks. It was like stepping into the dream world of your average five year old girl. PONIES! CHICKS! Gaaaaaaah.

Almost everyone on our tour also had a garden. My favorites were the ones that look like they could’ve just sprung up on their own, sort of rangy and over-full. Knowing the amount of work involved in any garden, even the free-wheeling type, I am strictly covetous and will probably never devote any amount of time to planting what can’t be eaten.
So the coop tour solidified our determination to try chickens, probably next spring, when Baby Buddha will be sturdier and reactive to delights like a few chickens in the backyard. We’re aiming for a coop, or possibly tractor, somewhere in the middle of the range we saw during the tour. We’ll see how that goes.

The Man took me out for a romantic date before parenthood. Because what says romance like giant slabs of meat? In this family, nothing really comes close. But here’s what is clear: I have a good husband.

I don’t anticipate another update before Baby Buddha is born. See you on the flipside. Woo!

You and Jamie came to my apartment for a surprise visit. Last night in my dream! It was a wonderful surprise! xo!
