We had a great, looming pecan tree in the backyard. It was only half-living, the other half dust-filled and as delicate as lace. Its far reaching branches posed a constant threat to our roof and occasional disruption to our electricity. So just recently, we said good-bye, scary zombie pecan tree.

Besides how adept they were at hacking apart a ginomorous tree with relatively few tools, the most impressive talent of our tree men was their ability to smoke constantly. I mean, when you’re wielding a chainsaw around your own vulnerable fleshy bits but you’re willing to squint it up a little as a ciggie hangs from your mouth and teases your eyes with acrid smoke, that’s a serious commitment to smoking. In short, these guys were awesome.

The Man, Baby Buddha and I all spent a good portion of the day outside watching the tree disappear. Our backyard is now a big pile of sawdust worth $900. Merry Christmas!

The big news in baby development: the discovery of her legs and feet, or more specifically her toes. And how her toes are like fingers. And anything you can put in your mouth is goodness. Her head is now also finally big enough for her sunglasses. So that’s a relief.
