Today is Mother’s Day. Sure the cynic in me may dismiss it as a Hallmark holiday but really, don’t mothers deserve a day? Not just mothers but fathers and grandparents and aunties and big brothers and all the other folks tasked by choice or not with the care of a child.

Just 9 months into my life as a mom, I can say it’s hard work, a lot of it unrewarding, repetitive, frustrating. People tell you it’ll be like this but like going to war or having your first kiss, it’s not something that can really be explained. But more like a first kiss and less like war, it is at times pretty spectacular and magical.
